This book is one of the outputs of ANTHRA’s research efforts spread over a decade. We have been able to document the properties of over 375 medicinal and fodder plant varieties. These we believe constitute our invaluable heritage not only in terms of bio-diversity but the indisputable fact that the knowledge about the usefulness of these plants resides with communities and forms an important part of our human capital.

This book is an effort to put this invaluable community knowledge in the public domain in document form so that it does not get eroded with the passage of time and generations. It is also as an attempt to decelerate the process of depletion of bio-diversity, and environmental degradation. We also hope to share this knowledge with a vast community of development workers at the grassroots level and to give back to the practitioners what belongs to them in the first place. Importantly, we also see it as an effort to prevent unethical commercial exploitation and false patent claims.
