When Sheep Walk the Ramp
On 23rd of October 2010 about 44 sheep with ribbons and garlands around their necks walked the ramp at the annual sheep judging competition in village Alankapuri, Solapur District, Maharashtra, India. The competition took place across different categories the best Rams under 3 years and over 3 years, the best ewes under 4 years and over 4 years. The minimum age for entry was 1 year. There was much excitement amongst the shepherds as their sheep were being judged and finally after the prizes were announced the winners couldn’t stop smiling. The event was hosted by village Alankapuri with the help of Anthra. Shepherds from many nearby villages brought their sheep. Village Tadawale had hosted their event on 20th October preceding their annual horse fair. Many more such events will be held in different districts over the next few months.
