Disappearing grazing lands… Shepherds Protest
Over 1,000 people mainly shepherds (Kuruba’s) along with their 4,000 sheep gathered in Chitradurga district of Karnataka in India protesting against the handing over of Amrithmahal Kavals – traditional grazing lands to government institutions. It is estimated that since 2009 over 10,000 acres of Amrithmahal Kavals in Challakere Taluk have been diverted. This would be disastrous for livestock.
